Thing that I do not quite understand and have been thinking about: Charity events. I'm not talking about super rich people and the events that they hold to raise money for whatever cause. I don't try to understand rich people. But charity things that regular people do, like Relay for Life, or Walk for the Whatever, what's the point of those? Those events cost money to host, money that could be put towards the actual cause that the charity is trying to help. Why not just have people donate money to your charity, and do more good? I would guess that people donate more when they have their friends and family asking them to sponsor whatever event, which is a less than awesome view of the way people work.
I think I'm just bothered by people, deep down.
People...and myself.
Don't even get me started on Kony 2012.

What are you saying?
What are you saying? I'm saying...
That was not relevant, but I like Tick Tick Boom, and I wanted you to know it.
I'm having this pervading feeling of worry right now. I'm worried that I'm not making the right decisions, that I'm not doing the right thing with my life. Then, I ask myself what else I would be doing, and I don't have a clue. That's scary, that I might not be doing what I should be doing, but that there's nothing else. I sometimes wonder if I like writing better than I like furniture. And then I panic. I panic because I'm not good enough at writing, and I'm not dedicated enough, and there's no clear path to a career. Would I be better off quitting school and hitchhiking around the country to try and find myself, or at least find something to do?
No, I can't do that. Girls can't go hitchhiking. Nice girls from the suburbs go to college and get married and get a job they can quit it when they have kids.
I don't think I was ever cut out for that, but wouldn't it be so easy? It would be so nice to do exactly what you're supposed to do and be happy with it, to feel whole without making anyone angry because you don't fit into their mold.
I don't want to deal with the future.

Petty
When there are somewhat large issues facing me, I tend to focus on little things. This is a diversion tactic. I will tap, I will pick at things, I will make sure that my nails and eyebrows look perfect.
Here is the issue that's currently freaking me out. Camera, remember that? I'm a neurotic freak about some things in life, and the condition of...things is one of them. Last night, I let asked my mom to hold my camera for a few hours. Keep in mind that said camera was purchased on May 7th and can be returned to the store within 14 days. Also remember that my mother asked me a few times if I was sure that I wanted to keep it, etc. Anyway, when she gives me back my camera...there is a scratch on the screen that was not present before she gained possession of it. AND IT IS ONE DAY TOO LATE TO RETURN IT, LEAVING ME TO COPE WITH A CAMERA THAT HAS A SCRATCHED SCREEN FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.
And I know that if I point it out to my mom, she will get mad at me. Really mad, most likely. WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST TAKE HER CAMERA?

Today is not a good day
Mmmr. My report card will probably look something like this: AP Government and Politics-B, AP English Literature-B, Health-B, Physical Education-B, International Relations-C, French V-C.

In which I seem to be utterly (otterly) insane.
Ahahahah. Just so you know, I'm not nearly as crazy as I thought I was. It's a real thing.
Uh...I needed to blog. So I am. Blogging.
Today was the last real day of gym for my whole entire life. Yay! But really, I liked gym this year. I think I'll miss it a little bit.
But I won't miss Gov. Grr rage gov anger.
Today when I was leaving school one of the parts of the parking lot that's sometimes blocked off with cones wasn't blocked and I tried to drive through it and Mac yelled at me because apparently the cones are there for a reason. Except THEY WEREN'T THERE. YOU MOVED THEM THERE AFTER YOU YELLED AT ME.
Um. This is a terrible blog post.
Do you ever have one of those moments where you wonder what makes you who you are and you realize that, if you woke up in a different life tomorrow morning, you would be a completely different person? And then you feel weird because you realize that you're not actually your own person at all and you're only what other people make you? Yep. Yep. Yep.
In other news, I'm supposed to be finishing typing up that story to send to my editor and studying for gov and making that diorama for French (no, this is not helping me learn French in any way) and study study studying more capitals and countries and agh, shoot me now.
Twelve and a half years of taxpayer funded education, and I am so eloquent. And I still abuse short sentences like it's my job.
Wouldn't it be great if that was my job?
Film School: It's legit happening. I have characters. I have a number of readers. It is so on. On like flapjacks. On like awesomesauce. On like pterodactyls. On like Persuasion and Pythons (the next book in the weird Pride and Predjuce and Zombies trend. It's like Snakes on a Plane. I invented it earlier today)
Also, I found the Zombiecorns story. And I am reading it. And it is effing hilarious. In a way. A weird way.
OH OH MY GOSH I ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION. I am declaring Feburary first to be New New Years. January has been, to say the least, a fuckup month for me and I kind of want to throw it away and pretend it never happened, so that's exactly what we're going to do. I will have New Year's resolutions and sparkling beverages (like...pepsi) and be filled with a general air of optomism and hope. It will be lovely. Just like you, dear readers.

Dramatic Sigh
So...Um...I can't be the only person who, every time they see the word "sigh" they think it says "sign" for a second? Yep. Yep. Yep.
Chris Colfer won a Golden Globe and so did Jane Lynch and Colin Firth and Glee. Yay. But I don't think The Social Network should have won best picture. That belonged to The King's Speech. And Darren Criss? Two months ago, you were famous on the internet. And you were up there, and that was cool. And Chris? Chris reminds me that sometimes, you do get everything you ever wanted. And he's a legit ninja.
I am so eloquent.
Anyway, I've been thinking about my, uh, future. Yeah. that. Basically, I am so done with school right now, and I want to quit. But that's not allowed. You can't go to college if you don't go to high school. What a silly rule. But even then, I'm not sure if college is right and I'm not sure what I'm going to do and how I'm going to do it. It's big and unmanageable and completely terrifying.
I'm not making very much sense now.
I'm on a suicide mission to finish this stupid book tonight.
That was a lie. It's not stupid. It's actually really interesting, but it's just so much information packed into the book that it takes me half an hour to read ten pages. And that's really frustrating.
This monster text explains my current feelings a lot better than I can. Even though I wrote it...but no matter. We were previously talking about superficial crap such as high school and external gratification. "On some level, it really doesn't matter, but when you look at it from the other direction, it matters. Everything matters. I want to be great, and I realize that my chances of not getting everything I want are far higher than my chances of actually getting those things. People tell me that they know that I'll make it, but how do they know? There are people who don't make it. What happens if I become another one of the nameless, faceless masses?" And they responded with something about fame that I would tell you but I didn't ask permission first, so then I said "I don't really know if it's about being famous so much as it's about being great. Like, what if I just try hard and fall into that constant trap of sabotaging any chance I have and then never make it?"
So yeah. That's what I'm feeling right now.

Isn't it funny...
That I haven't blogged in a week? That I need to write 16,000 words by the end of the month? That I started typing out "Sixteen thousand" because it's two words when "16,000" is just one?
College. College relates to all of the things I need to blog about right now. When I say that it relates to all of the things I need to blog about right now, I mean that it loosely relates to some of the things I need to blog about right now.
On Buy Nothing Day, I bought stuff, including a prom dress. I'm unnecessarily excited about this dress. If you're someone who has already heard about it, then I'm very sorry. It's a very exciting dress.

Convoluted Colours
I'm trying to work on my coloured white objects piece (the white ceramic stuff in the red box) with zero luck. I'm just scared of it, I guess. Colour is this big world that I'm just dipping my fingertip in, and it's big and confusing and I have no idea what to do with it.
My figure piece didn't really feel like it was getting anywhere tonight, but I like it.
I worry that I don't know how good I am and that I don't know enough about furniture and that maybe furniture just isn't right for me and maybe I should go into something else, but what?
Huh.

Bloggity blog blog.
I'm not a good Quizbowler, and I'm fine with that. I just wanted to put that out there. I'm not going to play professionally, and I think we all knew that.
More and more, I'm thinking that school and I think in completly different ways. When I mentioned this to my mother, she said "Haven't you been thinking this for the past five years?" Uhh, no Mom, I haven't. I'm at the point where nothing at all feels like it applies to my life. School is not in the business of teaching me how to be a person or how to get what I want out of life or any of that, school is in the business of passing out diplomas. You jump through the right hoops, you become a robot that is good enough, and you go off and you're allowed to have a perfectly satisfactory life. That's fine, I guess.
I don't think I can handle living life that way.
But, of course, we already realized that.
The problem is the lack of middle ground. You live the consumerist, plastic life, or you reject it all and then you run off to Alaska and starve to death and have some fool write a book about you.
Ewww.
I don't want either of those. I'm not sure what I want, and that's what makes it so hard to reject this and fight for the things I believe in.
In other news, my art teacher told me to collect books of furniture that I like, so that when I go and work for someone like these people, I know what I want to make. I think this is a fantastic idea. All I need to do is go to King's.

Thinking about Stuff
When I capitalize the S in stuff, you know it's a big deal.
You shouldn't feel like you have to read this post. If I were you, I wouldn't. I would run the other direction, to some fanfiction. It will make you happy. In fact, there was this one fanfiction that took on a lot of cliches and should have been horrible, but something about the execution just made it perfect, just let me find you the link.
I saw Our Town today, and it made me get all teary-eyed. I've never cried at a play before, and I rarely cry at movies*, but this made me get teary eyed to the point where I would have been bawling had I not been concentrating very hard on not crying.
And it was all about living and being truly awake and I know that I just can't wake up, because waking up hurts and sleepwalking is so easy. And I think that maybe none of us really want to wake up. We might say we do, we might put in a half-hearted effort, but it's so comfortable to be asleep and to fit in with everyone else. I don't know if I want to think about every single moment, because that's just too much pressure. And maybe I'm running from something, and maybe I have nothing to run from at all and maybe I'm just an overdramatic whiny teenager who can never ever be taken seriously and maybe I'll never change. Maybe you'll never change either maybe that's a good thing maybe we should never get old and just stand here holding hands in the night air for hours on end and both thinking about the state of the world and not bothering to say anything because we are above words for now at least is it weird that I listen to Ira Glass and I have this short story called the yellow wallpaper open in another tab the only thing it makes me think about is the fact that some fool painted a bathroom at church a horrid yellow and when I think about that I lose a little bit of faith in humanity and a little bit of my eyesight oh no I can't lose my eyesight, then I'll end up like crazy old Milton and I'll dictate my words to you and make you write them down because that's why you're here, isn't it?
Gee, I feel like I'm channeling the crazy right now.
I wrote a little bit on The Steampunk Thing tonight. And by a little bit, I mean that it was somewhere between ten and one hundred words. We're not pullling a 10k night or anything here, but a part of me needs that kind of wild adreneline right now, so we're not ruling out a crazy writing night as a possibility. Doing crazy stupid things makes me feel awake.
I need to get my books for APUSH and work on the freeking drawing tomorrow. When I'm refreshing my blogger dashboard over and over tomorrow, waiting for a comment, this should remind me of what I should be doing**.
*Books, however, are another story. I think it has a lot to do with character development, in that I get very attached to certain characters.
**Yeah, I reread that sentence and puked.

Engaged
I am not paying attention. I don't care about what I'm hearing, I just want to get out of here. When I get out of here, I'm not going to be doing anything. I'm going to curl up in a ball and just sit there, because right now, everything feels like it's too much effort. Today is going to be this week's designated tragic day, in which I avoid doing things and I avoid people. We've had a sharp uptick in these types of days ever since NaNoWriMo. Before that, was generally somewhere in the middle, but now, I'm either pretty good or rather pissed and just trying to get through and get over with the day. It almost feels like, on these days, that I don't need other people anymore, because other people just mess things up.
Good God, that sounded tragicaly emo. I'm sorry.

This is my life.
"It harbored many northerners whose hatred was directed not so much at slavery as at blacks and who gagged at the prospect of sharing the newly acquired western territories with African-Americans."
That's a passage from my APUSH book. I had to read it at least three times before it made any sense.
On the next page, "The overnight inpouring of tens of thousands of people into the future Golden State completely overwhelmed the one-horse government of California. A distressingly high proportion of the newcomers were lawless men, accompanied or followed by virtueless women." Does that irritate you like it irritates me? The biggest worries are men who break laws and women who don't have virtues? Does that mean that they dare to do things that men can do without anyone blinking an eye?
I do believe that it's time to bring out my angry eyes.

Je me parle
So. It's been a week since you posted.
I know. Sad, right?
Yep.
Well, I have excuses. I was busy. I took the ACT. And I had homework. And I was sick. These things take time.
Uh huh.
And I'm reading David Copperfield. I was telling myself that it was shorter than Anna Karenina, and if I can read that, I can read anything.
Why do you try to do these things?
And then I checked the back of the book.
Okay.
And it's eighty pages longer than Anna Karenina.
Niiice.
Thanks. I have APUS to do. God, that class just makes me
What?
It frustrates me.
If you took that long to think of it, one would hope that it would be a little more imaginative than that.
Shut up.

Love?
I'm at a point where I'm wondering if I love it, or if it's just something that I like right now, but I'll feel differently in a few months or a year. I'm sort of talking about art now, but the question applies itself to everything in my life. Writing? French? Blogging? Running away? They're all things that I'm into (the idea of, in some cases) right now, but I'm not sure about them in the long term.
This goes back to Kendall.
Apparently for Furniture Design, they do let almost everyone in. Because it's all furniture, there aren't very many people who want to go into it. Like Auto Design, that's the only thing you do your entire time in college. I like furniture design. I like it a lot.
But really, I don't love it.
Do I love history? Maybe. Do I love writing? I might. Do I love French? I do right now. Do I love blogging? Sometimes I do. Do I love the idea of running away? I often do.
But do I love any of these enough to spend forever on them? I really don't think I do.
Sometimes, you hear people talk about passion. So and so is really passionate about something. It makes them happy. They can spend all day doing it, day after day. There's nothing that has ever been like that for me, and that makes me curious.

Reasoning
I don't really want to go back to school. I mean, it's nice to be on a schedule again, to have concrete objectives and everything. I'd like to see everyone again, to be back at quizbowl again. Classes are going to be good, I think. This will be the first time in Hi! School when I haven't had English first semester, first block. Funny.
So it really does sound like I should like going back to school.
But going there every day exerts this negative energy over me. I ignore it for a while, but tonight, I started thinking about it again. The conversation started innocently enough, my mom was asking me when I was planning to work next week. I was going to work on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. She tells me that she's worried about me getting home at nine on Tuesday and not having any of my homework done. I tell her that it's the first day of school, the homework usually amounts to bringing back a signed syllabus and academic honesty sheet. Not too hard, I should be able to work. But that's not what I'm thinking. What I'm thinking is that no matter how much time I have to do it, I'll never do it well enough. Hell, I'll probably just procrastinate and not end up doing it at all, that's how you fail classes that you should be good at. It won't be as easy as everyone else makes it look, and even when I give it everything I have, I'll fall short. I'm the one who had all the chances, who had everything going for her, and threw it all away. I'm the weak one, the failure. And I try to stop it, try to tell myself that I can change, but I'm stuck on the downward spiral, negative after negative chasing me. There's always that point, when that one thing sets me off and I'm stuck thinking of how horrible I am at everything I try, no matter what I can find a way to fail, to fuck it up. That's me, the fuckup.
I wanted this school year to start out optimistic. That's what I do, I convince myself that I can change, then I go right back to my old habits. But now, that hopeful veneer is blown early on, and I'm stuck here.
So of course I'm excited to go back to school.
The funny thing is, I felt totally optimistic an hour ago. I could conquer the (value) world. I was looking at colleges. I was figuring out the rejection rate for City Year. I was making big plans, getting all nostalgic for the future, then this thing just hits me. I can't be here right now.

In which I am completly insane.
I have just written what I consider to be the greatest paragraph ever. Of course, my opinion of that paragraph may change if I dared to reread it, but we're going to refrain from that for now. It's very ranty. It reads the same as 80% of my blog posts. We may be seeing a trend in the tone of my writing and blog posts, but we're going to act like my writing has an actual style, not just that of me sitting down at the computer and ranting.
I went to the movies twice today. The first time, I saw The Time Traveler's Wife. It was cute. I read the book, and although the book was confusing, I think the movie made more sense having already understood the plot. The second time, I saw Julie and Julia. It was captivating and it made me want to cook something. Did I tell you that I made naan last week? I did. It was good. I took pictures, but I'm not sure about the location of my camera, and even if I was, I'm much too lazy to actually get the pictures off of it.
I watched The Prestige on Saturday, and the whole time I was thinking about storytelling. The movie tells it all very interestingly, so that you don't really understand what's happened until the end. It's given me a lot of concepts that should be applied to my NaNo, but that depends on which plot I use. Really, I should find a way to work them into my current story, but... when we edit. Because I will finish the beast, and then I will edit it, and then it will be lovely.
Registration is tomorrow, and the very thought of it makes me sick. I really don't want to go back to school this year.

News
I've been at camp for the past week, being trained in how to counsel children. I had a lot of fun. I kayaked across a lake. I slept outside and saw a million stars. I joked about stealing cheese from the Baptists. I got annoyed at another camp's bell. I was amazed by a pepper. I led people. I ate an otter snack. I got a bite from something on my eyelid. I was amazed at some people's ability to pay such attention to stupid things. I put my entire group through a tire. I got mosquito bites on my scalp and the backs of my upper thighs. I understood all the Bob Ditter jokes in the world. I had a lot of fun. You can see pictures here (the Counselor in Training one). I'm planning on going to Canoe Camp. There are scholarships available. Anybody want to come with me?
Michael Jackson is dead. Today, almost 16,000 children died from hunger related causes. Which is a bigger deal?
I got started on the WH stuff today. I am strangely proud of that, even though it's not that big of a deal. Whatever.
Hilariously stupid people: Yesterday, we had family over at my house for my grandma's birthday. My great-aunt was one of those family members. I don't really get along with her for numerous reasons. We had sponge cake for dessert (there is a dessert comment for another time) and she goes on this crazy rant about how the cake is upside down. In her mind, one should take the cake out of the oven and flip it over. She then states that the part that was on the bottom in the oven is now on the top, and this is wrong. Please note that she has assessed the status of the cake wrongly. The cake is currently placed on a plate in the same orientation as it was in the oven. My grandma says that yes, we generally flip this kind of cake, but it tastes the same upside down as it does right side up. My great-aunt goes on to say that my grandma is the only person there with a brain. Please note that she is yelling about a cake. Also note that she has previously baked a cake that had a similar consistency to sawdust, as several reviewers have stated. And people wonder how I feel about having all my family near me.
In other news, I'm seeing Food, Inc. tomorrow. This is what vegetarians watch, people. Dorky vegetarians, that is.

Are you Okay?
Maybe. Not really sure.
I wasn't going to blog today. I have too much homework, and I have this bio test tomorrow that isn't my final, but it's still a pretty big deal.
That bio test is the reason I am borderline not okay.
I'm getting a B in bio. An 81%. And then I have 2% extra credit (!) and I have a test and a project to do before the final, which is worth 20% of the grade.
So if I get a really good grade on this test, and a really good grade on this project, and a really good grade on the test, then I could get an A in this class. I want that A.
Understandably, I'm a little freaked out about this test. And it's sort of paralyzing. And I know I want to do well, but what happens if I don't do well? Then I'm screwed. Well, not screwed, but I'm letting them be right. Other people seem to percieve me as someone who is really smart. And then they find out my grades and decide that because my grades aren't awesome, I'm a dumb kid who hangs out with smart people. Someone in my bio class told me this (in less words) today.
And that pisses me off.
Because I don't think being good at school automatically makes you smart, and I don't think being smart automatically makes you good at school. I sort of think of them as two vaugely related entities.
I think I'm reasonably smart, but not that good at school.
And yeah, you could explain that away by saying that's how dumb kids make excuses for their stupidity.

Eugh.
Yesterday. I went to school. I went to freshman/sophomore preformance. It was decent. I messed up a little bit, but I feel that it's to be expected. In Euro, I had to present my cultural artifact, which was the music video of Path by Apocalyptica. I did a sort of terrible job presenting it, then I had to leave before people had watched the video. It was annoying. And then after freshman/sophomre, I went to quiz bowl. We were playing the nationals team against everyone else. I was on the everyone else team, and I didn't get any questions. Which was really great. Then I went home and actually worked on my Bio Review of Pain and Agony. I tripled the number of questions I had done, which isn't saying as much as it should be. Basically, I've done six questions. There are probably 200. This is why we call it the Bio Review of Pain and Agony.
But today is better. Margianally. I don't have anything to do after school today, so I am free!!! It should be fun. I plan on writing like...3000 words?
But I'll probably end up working on the Goddamn Bio Review of Pain and Agony.

I've found my rantypants!
After freshman/sophomore practice, my friend and I were waiting for our ride. We were reading the senior superlative list and talking to another friend about drama stuff. Someone else who I know who was standing nearby walks up to us just as I say that the plays this year aren't nearly as wildly awesome as they were last year. This other person is sort of telling me that I can't say that, that I should just be thankful that I got a part. They even tell my friend that she wouldn't have had a part if she hadn't gone and whined about it. This pisses me off. Nobody needs to butt in on other people's conversations and tell them what they can and can't say. Nobody got parts because they whined about it. There's no need to be bitter.
A few days ago, I was standing outside my Bio class, waiting for the teacher to come. I was having a conversation with someone, and out of no where, someone else tells me that I'm skinny. What are you supposed to say to that? I don't feel skinny. I don't see skinny when I look in the mirror, and it feels incredibly awkard if someon comments on that. I don't comment on your weight, please don't comment on mine.
One of the bloggers whose blog I read is in a childbirth class. They're not pregnant or anything, they just had to take a class and that was the only one left. They posted this big long rant the other day about how it's wrong to have your baby in a hospital because a doctor will preform a c-section for no reason, and that's bad for your baby. I totally get that argument, but it needs some background. You'd think this person could explain why so many Americans give birth in hospitals, why the default is a doctor, basically how we got this way. Their main argument was that mothers need to bond with their baby right after it's born, and you can't do that with a c-section. That needs more of a health explanation.
I had my Euro final today. I think I did decently, but there's really no way to be sure until the grades are back. When the class had started, I realized that I didn't have my binder and sort of freaked out, thinking that I left it in my Bio classroom. Only after school was over did I realize that I turned my binder in when the teacher told me to. Fail.
I also went to the Euro room for seminar to discuss my writing. I read all the FRQ answers I wrote this year and came to one epic conclusion. I am bad at using and explaining evidence. This is something that I've known for a long time. This is something that debate shows me time and time again. Any ideas on how to make this better?
I need to study for Bio. I've sort of (a lot) been neglecting it in favour of everything else there is to do. And now I must do it. Sob.
We're starting our interior design unit on Monday in Commercial Art. You have no idea how excited I am about this. God, I love interiors. Fabulous website of the day!
